September 5, 2023 – Dundas ON/Moncton, N.B. – In an exciting development for the cannabis industry, Hidden Harvest Inc., Atlantic Canada’s first licensed cannabis nursery, and Remix Genetics are combining expertise to launch their innovative seedless "triploid" cannabis genetics in the Maritime Provinces. Leveraging technology similar to that used to make seedless watermelon, this partnership aims to offer cannabis plant starter materials free from the risk of unintended pollination, ensuring more consistent and higher-quality harvests.
The creation of polyploids in this process is non-GMO and occurs naturally. In fact, it mirrors a phenomenon that takes place in the wild on a regular basis. A prime example is bread wheat, which emerged as natural polyploid thousands of years ago through entirely natural processes.
This collaboration sees Remix Genetics' cutting-edge cannabis breeding techniques align with Hidden Harvest's strong market presence in the Maritimes, promising to redefine the norms of cannabis cultivation in the region. “This collaboration between Hidden Harvest and Remix Genetics was a natural evolution, born from our shared commitment to innovation in cannabis cultivation and creating value for our cultivator customers,” said Rod Wilson, CEO of Hidden Harvest Inc.
The benefits of seedless cannabis include protection against unwanted pollination and a higher and more consistent flower quality and yield. Seedless cannabis focuses on producing denser flowers and cannabinoids, often leading to a more potent flower as a result. The first commercial products from the collaboration will be introduced to the market for purchase in early 2024.
